I love spending time with school friends, in the Northwest. I'm stunned at the temperatures that I'm hearing. 116, in Salem, Or., is (or WAS) unheard of.
Good advice, Enigma!

I think the worst has passed for us. The air is not so warm. I could not take any more of it. I never needed an air conditioner before but I am going to get a portable one just in case because this was very tough. I was able to go down to a low level and be cool enough at night.

I'm glad you have a lower level, prime. this is horribly hot.

I saw an ad for a portable air conditioner--one you put water in. I have ice in the fridge but I need to be prepared for next time.

Talking with the one work teammate who is based in British Columbia yesterday (Monday). She said that it wasn't even 9:00am, and it had already got to 34 degrees Celsius - or 93.2 Fahrenheit! In between dinner and the hockey game, I had the TV on The Weather Network. It was said that Lytton, BC had reached a temperature of - I thought it was 47 degrees Celsius - or 116.6 Fahrenheit! That wasn't even factoring in the humidity! Coincidental that Tim Horton's now has a commercial from Osoyoos, BC - proclaiming it as one of Canada's hottest spots. Move over, Osoyoos - you have company in Lytton! Meanwhile, here (southwestern Ontario), it was about 31 degrees Celsius. Manageable, but the best is yet to come. Joker's Wilde

It may be caused by climate change...maybe.

I was watching a M*A*S*H episode a couple of days ago were everyone was singing... Irving Berlin's "Heat Wave": We're having a heat wave, A tropical heat wave, The temperature's rising, It isn't surprising,en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_Wave_(Irving_Berlin_song)Except they sang it to forget how cold it was... Any way, I thought of you poor folks suffering from this record heat... Any of you singing "Cold" songs or watching "Cold" movies to take your minds off of it? Or is it just too hot, to forget about it even if for just a few minutes?

It’s been pretty swampy out there. I’m wet the second I leave the house and not in a good way.

I’m so glad I don’t still live in the greater Seattle area right now
Air conditioning isn’t usually in apartments out there. It would be hell without it
I have 2 friends out there in redmond, wa and my sister in renton. All 3 of are complaining on Facebook about not having air conditioning.
Now granted, this humidity here in Pennsylvania is torture but at least its only torture outdoors

Just an update:
Watching the news this morning, it was said that Lytton hit an all-time high for temperature:
49.6 degrees Celsius = just over 121 degrees Fahrenheit!
Wow!

Prime etc. I always say I'm going to buy a generator and never do (I'm in the central valley of Calif. ) maybe a little AC would be a good idea== or at least a box fan. those are only twenty dollars and really help. good luck!! You are in California and you don't have an air conditioner?
I don't need a fan right now. Usually if it is hot just opening a window and pouring water on my head with a fan is good enough. But this was suffocating hot so I feel I better get an AC unit on hand because it was so awful.
