Ah, the 1990s. For a very brief moment, Nic Cage action movies weren’t complete embarrassments. With his flowing hair, glistening muscles, and thick Alabama accent, it’s a sight to behold. He plays Cameron Poe, an Army Ranger returning home to his pregnant wife. When some drunken hillbillies attack him with a knife, Poe kills one of them. In what is in clearly an act of self defense, Poe still gets at least 7 years in prison. His plans to finally see his daughter are put on hold when the transport plane is taken over by the prisoners. Said prisoners are led by John Malkovich AKA Cyrus the Virus. This is very much a Jerry Bruckheimer production - the rocking score, the cheesy song from Trisha Yearwood, stuff getting blown up real good, any type of subtlety getting its neck broken. It’s often hilarious yet always entertaining. For story reasons, Poe needs to stay on the plane as he has the opportunity to leave. He stays because he his only buddy is dead soon unless he gets his insulin. As someone who has Type 1 diabetes, it doesn’t work like that.

Michael Bay's best directorial effort to date. I think you mean The Rock. Besides, Simon West directed Con Air.

The most Michael Bay-esque film not actually directed by him

While I really enjoy his other two entries in his "90s action trilogy", this is just one big, noisy stupid mess of a movie. Steve Buscemi was the only bright spot in the entire thing.

I always liked the campiness of it. Everybody has their own cute pirate nickname…Cyrus the Virus, Billy Bedlam, Johnny 25 or whatever…and it has some amazing lines. Me and friends still use the “Cyrus this is your barbecue man and it tastes good…” before bringing up some bad news or something.

The most Michael Bay-esque film not actually directed by him And better than all of his movies as well, even The Rock imo.

Garland Greene, The Marietta Mangler. I love the insanely OTT way he is introduced and then ends up being the most harmless character in the movie. It's Johnny 23 btw. Con Air is one of the most purely entertaining tongue-in-cheek action movies ever made imo.
