Didn't like that they changed genres from western to a more conventional action picture.

1996
Yup, I prefer the silly but extremely entertaining John Woo movie.
I find the 1950 western movie to be a bit on the dull side.

Well the 1996 one birthed the name of the popular, game changing website "Aint It Cool News" so...

The 1996 version just for Howie Long's death scream.

I'm a huge fan of Stewart, but Broken Arrow isn't one of his best Westerns. Chandler is pretty good as Cochise. It's a little plodding although the use of Technicolor makes it a pretty film. It's interesting from the standpoint that it portrayed the Native Americans in a balanced manner.
As for the Woo film, it's a Woo film. Can't say much more about that. It's a fun throwaway action film. I've never been a huge Travolta fan, but Slater is good and I agree about Howie Long's death scream.
I give a slight edge to the 1950 film just because I like Stewart/Chandler a heck of a lot better than Travolta/Slater.

No one is better than a Travolta Slater rivalry in an action film not even Stewart. I think I've finally met a "same titled movie comparison" thread that I hate. People voting cowboys and Indians over badass Travolta is just pitiful but is to be expected.

I usually pick the fifties films, but in this case, it's one of the "lesser" fifties movies. And the modern Broken Arrow is one of the more inspired, original of modern movies.
If one didn't know the year, one would think the years were reversed.
I like the 1996 version better, but not by a great margin. It's the best movie I've ever seen Travolta in. The 1950 Arrow is one of the lesser movies I've ever seen Stewart in.
