Anthony Hopkins shoots his wife then engages in a battle of wits with Ryan Goslings DA in a decent courtroom drama.

Hopkins is spectacular as usual. Gosling is good. Rosamund Pike looks great.

I revisit this one every couple years and it’s always a joy to watch Hopkins charismatically school everyone around him for most of the film.

A favorite of mine. I love the variation Hopkins gives here on his Hannibal Lecter performance and the rings his character runs around the court system. Also, shockingly decent mystery (though a pal of mine solved it very quickly—grr…). That scene with Hopkins and Gosling exchanging witty lines is a hoot. And, yes, Rosamund Pike looks great.
