My Dad watched (still does) a lot of movies, he introduced me to the Bond films in particular and took us (the family) to the movies when he was off of work (he was a shift worker at a chemical plant, so weird hours). I'm trying to think of his favorites, I know one he still quotes quite a bit is Sling Blade. He likes all of the Tom Clancy adaptions except for the crummy Ben Affleck one.
The ones I remember him watching back in the VHS days and early days of cable were:
The Connery and Moore Bond films Just about any WW2 film Most John Wayne films Movies that had to do with airplanes (he's a big airplane enthusiast)

Top Gun
He also loves westerns and his favorite actor is John Wayne. I think his favorite western is Tombstone though.

He does not have one favorite but these are among his favs. Muppet Christmas Carol Krampus One Magic Christmas The Human Comedy Inglourious Basterds Woodchipper Massacre Murder Party Dead Silence Eclectic taste! That's cool, and great that your parents love movies too. Movies can bring up many great discussions (as we know!)

I'll ask him later. He's asleep at the moment.
He has never been a movie buff., though he does have a VHS collection consisting of old Westerns up in the attic dating back to the 90s. He's more into sports, home design, engineering and history shows than movies but I've no doubt it'll be one of the classics.

Not sure. He was very fond of the Marx Brothers, and he liked quite a lot of foreign films like Bicycle Thieves and La Ronde. I couldn’t say for certain what his top favourite was.

My father is 78 and has been a movie fan all his life.

We would see it in the TV Guide, and we would point it out to him. he's say "Oh, I'm not watching that. I've seen it 10000 times." But inevitably, he would watch

Casablanca. When I was little, he had a giant sized, wooden screen reprint of the poster hanging in our den. He's still got it, but the string broke years ago.

I can only ever remember my father taking the time and effort to see one film, SUNDAY TOO FAR AWAY (1975), starring Aussie legend, Jack Thompson.
The film is set on a sheep station in the Australian outback in 1955 and its action concentrates on the shearers' reactions to a threat to their bonuses and the arrival of non-union labour. In many ways, it was a similar camaraderie and lifestyle to the one my father had experienced, prior to WWII. I think that was the film's attraction for him.
It won three 1975 Australian Film Institute awards: Best Film, Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

He wasn't a big movie fan---but I assume his favorites were James Bond-especially Goldfinger based on how often he mentioned it.
