With hopes of being a ballet ballerina, she auditioned for An American in Paris 1951, only to please her mother who loved Hollywood musicals. Well she got the role, and a gold MGM contract, that later turned out not that pleasant all the time. She could have got out but have continued to act... Without any formal acting training she by the end of the day so far did good, since she is the recipient of a Golden Globe Award, two BAFTA Awards, and a Primetime Emmy Award, in addition to nominations for two Academy Awards. The L-Shaped Room 1962, winning both a BAFTA Award as a Golden Globe, and Oscar Nominated Law & Order episode Recall 2006, earning an Emmy Award "Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series" Lili 1953, Winning a BAFTA award (strangely in the Best Foreign Actress category), and nominated for an Oscar. The song "Hi Lili, Hi Lo" became a worldwide hit parade song, in all kinds of arrangements. When Hollywood Walk of Fame was inaugurated in 1960, it was decided that all actors and actresses, stars or supporting actors and actresses nominated for Oscars should each have a star, but somehow some slipped by, and Leslie was one of them, she got her belated star in 2009 Not bad for a little girl who once went to an audition to please her mother. Those above is only fragments of a long career.

Joyeux Anniversaire, and thanks for all the films, especially Lili (oh great, now that tune will be stuck in my head again for hours).

Gene Kelly thought Leslie Caron was a terrific dancer but unconventional in some ways, a rough diamond if you will. Caron knows Warren Beatty, they used to hang together in the Hollywood hills (he's 84 years young). They are two of my favourite movie people. Caron also works in French education, she's promoted musical youth through her youth work with celebrated youth musical director Michel Lang for example, I just always hear from French people she's a really nice lady who's extremely talented at what she does within her chosen fields.

It is still amaze me that she did not get an Oscar nomination for Gigi.

Happy Birthday to the wonderful Leslie Caron. She lights up the screen with every performance. Especially loved her in The L-Shaped Room, Lili, Father Goose, and in her television roles: Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and The Durrells. Happy 90th, Miss Caron. Have a beautiful day.
