MOU GAAN DOU (INFERNAL AFFAIRS) 3/10 MOU GAAN DOU II (INFERNAL AFFAIRS PART II) 1/10 MOU GAAN DOU III: JUNG GIK MOU GAAN (INFERNAL AFFAIRS PART III) 1/10 MOU GAAN DOU (INFERNAL AFFAIRS) suffered from boring directing and a melodramatic music score. THE DEPARTED tells the same story but with style and intensity. The performances are great and the dark humour is funny. There are mistakes in the editing and the way in which songs start and stop playing. They feel like they were made on purpose, but they still distract. 8/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.

A rare case (for me) of the Hollywood remake greatly improving upon the original film.

When The Departed won the Oscar for adapted screenplay, the announcer stated Infernal Affairs is a Japanese film. Oops.

The Departed. A gritty old school crime thriller with a great cast.
Infernal Affairs was awful. It looked like such an amateur piece of work. Really cheaply produced.

The Departed had some good twists in the end but very unlikable characters.

I started watching Infernal Affairs once and gave up after a few minutes - not that I thought it was bad, I just wasn't in the mood for it.
I have to say that I am not a big fan of Hong Kong movies. With few exceptions I find them far inferior to Japanese and Korean ones.
