My personal opinion is Here Comes Mr Jordan is the better movie. I guess I can see why people like the remake Heaven Can Wait more, but I thought the story was better in the original and I really liked Claude Rains as Mr Jordan. Heaven can wait isn’t bad or anything, but I just don’t think it’s as good as people make it out to be. I also really didn’t like James Mason as Mr. Jordan. Also Warren Beatty is kind of overrated in my opinion.
Down to Earth….it’s there. I saw what they were trying to do. It felt like they wanted to really UP the comedy, but forgot that Here Comes Mr Jordan wasn’t actually a straight up comedy, but a dromedy . Also anyone know why this one specifically is based on Heaven Can Wait and not Here Comes Mr Jordan? On the back of my dvd copy it even says “Based on the screenplay Heaven Can Wait”. Just really odd since I didn’t see anything directly taken from Heaven Can Wait.

Probably because more people are familiar with Heaven Can Wait and maybe the makers of Down to Earth prefer Heaven Can Wait to Here Comes Mr. Jordan.

The old one with Claude Rains was a wonderful movie. The Warren Beatty one had its moments but wasn't nearly as good. Never saw the Chris Rock one.
The sequel to the original was also called "Down to Earth".

Of all the comparisons so far, Psycho and The Magnificent Seven are the only 2 where nobody voted for the remakes.
In case anybody is curious.

Here Comes Mr Jordan is tolerable mainly for James Gleason as Max, who is a very funny. Other than that, it’s an irritating film, particularly Claude Rains with that permanent kindly smile fixed to his face. Heaven Can Wait is irritating without having any humour at all. Haven’t seen the other one. In general, I hate films about angels coming down to earth and sorting people’s problems and people going to heaven and coming back etc.
