As I recall, Dino and Monty are chasing Marlon. Marlon kills Monty, then Dino kills Marlon. But I might be recalling events form the book. Actually, they didn't really know Marlon was even there. And Monty is reunited with wife Hope Lange at the fadeout. Wow! They mangled the book! Not the first time, not the last.

Wow! They mangled the book! Not the first time, not the last. Happy endings must prevail in 1958! Compensating for Norman Mailer's failure to see the uplifting nature of the Pacific war, Hollywood gave The Naked and the Dead a cheery ending. People who die in the book, live in the film - and vice versa. Such a great book too.
