Remake was creepier. Proof of that is the scene after the end credits.

The original 1959 gets my vote. (I hate the 1999 version.)

1959. The ‘99 movie has a great opening scene though.

99. Creepier like people said, and fun ensemble.

1959
William Castle's greatest opus and, although it may be hard to believe now, the movie really did scare the Cheerios out of kids. Unfortunately, my home town theatre was not equipped with Emergo. Or maybe fortunately, since it didn't detract from what was happening on screen.
I've written this before, but it is one of my greatest movie memories:
The 1959 film gave us the greatest jump scare of the 1950's. When the Old Caretaker floated past Nora in the closest, 500 kids had to be scrapped off the ceiling.
When Nora stood paralyzed with fear as a rope slithered through a window and coiled around her feet, my younger cousin crawled over two people and landed in my lap. She has a stranglehold around my neck, I'm trying to push her out of the way to see what is happening and the place is in pandemonium.
Thanx, Mr. Castle, wherever you are.

Any movie with the real Vincent Price automatically gets my vote. Although Geoffrey Rush doing his bad Vincent Price impression is still certainly fun in his own right.

I am somewhat indifferent. I don't care for the original except for Price and Ohmart.
The remake has Rush resembling Price at times. And the ink ghost at the end is a creepy idea but ruined by the cgi. 50/50 split.

I dislike the 1959. Even for a film of its time, it looks very cheap and unconvincing.
I prefer the 1999 version, though it's been eons since I watched it.

The original is actually the only Vincent Price horror movie I’ve seen that I found pretty lousy, although he’s obviously the best thing about it. I never saw the remake and the prospect of Geoffrey Rush hamming it up is hardly a temptation.
