The so called “prequel” felt like a straight up remake until the end credits scene. Having established what happened to the Norwegians in the 1982 film, tghe nature of the creature, and trying to emulate the JC film's mood and look...similarities were inevitable. It's has it's faults by I quite enjoyed it.

The 1982 for me. Probably my favourite film.
I liked the 1951 version. It is however, along with Running Man, the worst adaptation of a book I've read I've seen
Beyond snow and an alien the two films have very little in common.

I’m gonna bring this up again, but I hate when people say “John Carpenter’s The Thing isn’t a remake of The Thing From Another World.” Yes it is for 2 reasons. John Carpenter said specifically he wanted to remake “The Thing from another world”, but he said he wanted it to be closer to the story as well. I know people have used the excuse it’s a re adaption and it should be looked at as something like the Batman reboots or Superman movies. There in lies the issue though. The Superman and Batman movies took NOTHING except maybe the origin stories, but that was from the original comics.
Carrie, Pet Sematary, The Thing, True Grit, Body Snatchers, War Of The Worlds etc all took one or many things from the original movies. The Thing took from scenes from the original and Body Snatchers and War Of The Worlds had cameos from the original movies.
So this whole “they’re re adaptions” crap needs to stop.

My pet peeve is that this is a big deal to anybody. Who cares if they are considered remakes or re-adaptations? Some are too different from the originals to be considered remakes, even if they have one or 2 nods to the original movies imo. Or rather they are both a re-adaptation and a remake. Something like Carrie (2013) is clearly a remake, whereas War of the Worlds can be seen as both.
