I’d love to see them try. I felt like Barton Fink had some horror elements and so did No Country for Old Men, but I mean a straight up horror movie.

Yes.
A handful of their movies have very effective horror elements.

I think so. They're very competent directors. I'm sure they prefer and work best with their own material but they are professionals. They could have directed Elf if they were asked nicely and the money was good.
I think the Coen Brothers could make a very good horror movie.

Judging by the tension created in No Country For Old Men and The Man Who Wasn't There, they could make a whopper of a horror movie, and I suspect it would look a lot like the work of Val Lewton crossed with Hitchcock.

Blood simple feels like a horror film at times and is quite effective

I think they definitely could.
I bet it’d look quite a bit different now, but back when they first started I bet a horror movie from them would look a lot like a Raimi flick.
Blood Simple definitely had some Raimi shots in it.

I've often wondered why they haven't done a straight horror movie considering how well they handled suspense with Blood Simple and No Country For Old Men, and also look at movies like Barton Fink or Inside Llewyn Davis. When I sat in the theater watching ILD I felt such unease not knowing which direction this movie was going to go, especially with the introduction of the John Goodman character and the general feeling that Llewyn Davis was trapped in some type of purgatory where nothing could ever go right for him, I felt the movie could've taken a horror turn at any point. It just seems they either have no interest at all in the genre, or maybe with their connection to the Raimi brothers that they sort of siphoned their horror ideas through them and their Ghosthouse horror film label.

You just gave huge evidence that the answer is "No way".
They do everything the "safe" and "predictable" way. Maybe the most "Hollywood formula" thugs in the business.

I think Inside Llewyn Davis is by far their most depressing movie.
