So I watched the Cloverfield films. The first one I have seen before but the two sequels I just seen for the first time. My thoughts.
Cloverfield - 5/10 I actually enjoyed this more the second time around. Upon seeing this when it was new I did not like it. Now I just think of as an watchable film but Im still not a fan. I like the premise enough but I think this should have gone with an R rating. The PG-13 kinda waters it down. Basically it a OK monster/alien film.
10 Cloverfield Lane - 6/10 I had some issues with this film. Really this felt like it should be its own film and not related to Cloverfield. It would have had people guess more on the outcome. Also I wanted some more back story with John Goodman and his "daughter". They do share enough but personally I wanted more. However I like this one more than the first because it had better more interesting characters and it felt pretty intense at times. John Goodman gives a great performance as well.
The Cloverfield Paradox - 2/10 OK this one I did not like at all. Each had a very different feel to them and that could be a original and positive thing. However The Cloverfield Paradox just felt like a very dull space film. It felt like a Prometheus spin off. Its defiantly more complex than the first two films but I was just flat out bored during this film. I didnt care about anything. I kept looking at how much time I had left. I did get a kick out of the guy who loses an arm and it does not worry him that much. Hell he cracks jokes about it not to long after. This one was a chore to watch.
So what did you all think of the Cloverfield films?

The original is extremely boring, the second is good until the cartoonish and predictable last 20 minutes and I haven't bothered with the third.

The "found footage" gimmick really doesn't work for Cloverfield imo. It has worked for 2 movies - The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity. In the latter it is done in a way where the cameras are just set up and so the characters don't look like idiots carrying the camera around everywhere. It doesn't feel forced in those 2 movies. It also works in The Bay (2012), but I don't remember why it works so well there. It is done in a way where it makes you forget it is a found footage movie. That is one of the most intense and disturbing horror movies I have ever seen.

The Blair Witch Project is one of my favorite films but Paranormal Activity I did not find scary at all. There are a lot of found footage films out there and man can they suck. There are many good, effective ones out there like The Disappearance of Jenna Matheson, The Last Broadcast and Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County. But its like for every good one there exist at least two bad ones.

I actually disagree with moviemouth the only time found footage has worked was with the original Cloverfield movie and not the movies moviemouth said that they worked, Blair Witch was dull and amateur and paranormal activity was dull too And FridayOnElmStreet how are you today? I haven't seen you on here for a while.

I like the first one but they could have done more with the premise it had. Plus I felt the opening scene at the party took too long. 7/10
10 Cloverfield Lane I like better. It's got great performances, especially from Goodman, and a fairly tight script. I also prefer the general filmmaking style over found-footage. 7.5/10
Never bothered with Paradox.

I remember seeing the trailer for the first one and thinking how interesting it looked. I finally saw it once it came out on dvd and thought it was just another monster movie although better than some. All in all just from memory (it’s been awhile) I’ll give it a 6/10 for being a decent monster film.
The second one I actually didn’t give much thought to when it was first announced, it almost seemed like it was a crummy straight to video film that just used the name to somehow tie it in to the first film. Almost like an American Pie straight to video film. I thought it was well done though once I saw it and atmospheric since most of it occurs in one location. Goodman was good. I like the Houston reference too. 7/10
I haven’t seen the third one.
