Neither are great and both feel like retreads of their franchises in a lot of ways. While I think AvP is better than it gets credit for, FvJ is just the more entertaining film and delivers what most people wanted out of it better.

Freddy vs Jason was better. It made sense that Freddy would initiate it.
AvP was a missed opportunity.
They followed the stupid comic book too much with the predators hunting aliens for ages and that godawful shtick with the woman fighting alongside the predator.
Wokeness was in full swing even then.
Although the aliens were tougher in the movie than they were in the comic book.
The most logical thing would have been for them to meet for the first time so there's some extra interest in seeing what happens.

No, having the Predators as alien hunters for millions of years was the only good part AVP movies. I mean what extra interest would they have in common? Michael Kors handbags? No , the whole point would be the predators are going after humans or something and the aliens appear--and the predators have to deal with them for the first time. That is way more interesting than having us see them use them as a canned hunting activity.

The Predators are space travelers they would've interacted with aliens sooner or later. Plus the alien skull was in Predator 2 too. And Freddy's glove was in a Jason movie--that didn't stop them from making it seem more like they were meeting for the first time.
They could have had humans being hunted by the predators--on a planet somewhere-and the humans find the aliens and get infected-and then the predators detect the aliens. Having the aliens being the prisoners of the predators spoils it. And they did it so the predators are more sympathetic--again--that wokeness ending in Predator 2 where the predators treat Danny Glover as a bro and a homie.

FvsJ was decent, I tried watching 15 minutes of AvP, got bored and turned it off.
