Janet Gaynor won the very first Best Actress Oscar for starring in three different films. Two of these films, 7TH HEAVEN and STREET ANGEL, were directed by Frank Borzage. Does this qualify as an acceptable entry?

Does this qualify as an acceptable entry? In the judgment of this objective bystander, I say "No". Even though Gaynor's nomination was for three films, it was still ONE nomination.

Take solace in the knowledge that I have no say over this.
But in your heart, you know I'm right.

I have checked through all of the actors and actresses who were Oscar nominated for supporting roles--some with multiple nominations but none with nominations with the same director. Matt, you may have to end it with an odd number.

Does this qualify as an acceptable entry? It does so much more than merely 'qualify.' Better yet -- it was already nabbed at #62. I'll leave to you to discover who the thief was.

Isapop does have a point -- not a good one, but a point nevertheless. Two different titles are still two different films. So Janet will remain posted at #62.

Take solace in the knowledge that I have no say over this. But in your heart, you know I'm right. Wasn't that Barry Goldwater's campaign slogan in 1964? (and he also went down to ignominious defeat)

Just looking at Meryl Streep's filmography. Incredible that of all the nominations she got, she only had the same director once.

What's amazing to me is how many performers were multiple Oscar nominees without repeating directors:
For example: Meryl Streep was nominated 21 times and only repeated with ONE DIRECTOR? Does that mean that she was Oscar nominated with 20 different directors. I guess it does. That makes me think even more kindly about her career than I did before (without this information).
While searching, I saw this pattern over and over with many performers. Jeff Bridges--7 nominations--no repeating directors, etc.

Jack Nicholson was another -- 12 noms but he spread out his directors (only two noms, both wins, with James L. Brooks).

Well, we did manage to make it to an impressive 70 entries -- with Jervis pulling us across the finish line. If there is still a stray one hanging about, feel free to add it to the mix. Thanking all of those wonderful players out there in the dark (to paraphrase Norma Desmond): Bella and Jervis and Kijii and Rufus and Sostie and Spider Oh, and Marsha -- who chimed in
And Kibitzer Isapop, of course
and even the QM, who lent a hand or two
Another non-scoring, non-traditional GG activity will appear in a day or two

(and he also went down to ignominious defeat) Well, you COULD say that. Then again, you could say that it's from Shrek Donkey's Thriller. Listen to the lyrics at 2:45.
