The 1957 is a western genre masterwork. Director Delmer takes this western from the wide open spaces to one small space in a small town hotel. He employs cinematographer Charles Lawton, Jr, a veteran of film noir, shooting in a crisp wide-screen black and white, to create the second half in that style, employing extreme close ups, plays of light and shadow, a lot of perspiration, filming up staircases, and generally creating an atmosphere of impending doom. A must see film.
The remake in 2007 which, although the actors were dressed up in movie cowboy costumes, was nothing more than a modern high-octane action movie with the chases, shoot-outs, and crises coming right on cue every two minutes as if it were a western Die Hard VIII or White House Down On The Prairie. It seems to be highly thought of by current movie fans but I could barely stand it. It became very tiresome very quickly.

They’re both pretty good movies. I’ll admit though I prefer the way the 1957 one ended to how the 2007 one ended.

The remake is enjoyable, but the original has such entertaining banter between Heflin and Ford. An easy choice.

2007. Crowe and Bale are terrific. Great ending.

I love the 1957 original. Never saw the remake. Just finished watching the original. 8.5/102007 - 8/10 I think the 2007 is one of the best movie remakes. It is largely the same, but is more action packed and has a great side villain in Ben Foster. In the remake one of Wade's partners is a psychopath played by Foster. I think the supporting cast is better in the remake and I like a couple of the scenes they add in the remake. It keeps to the spirit of the original, but does everything with a slightly different feel. The remake is a meaner movie. That being said, the original is more focused and more unique.

Glenn Ford, what more can you say?
The '57 original is a Western masterpiece.
The remake is decent and I'm all for modern Westerns but it just can't beat the original.

1957 had a bit more credibility in an incredible situation. 2007 was just way too Hollywood.
