Just as you thought you could take a break from international football after the Euro and the Copa America, the CONCACAF equivalent (the Gold Cup) starts!
The USA is hosting it. Games will be played in Las Vegas, Phoenix, Austin, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, Kansas City and Orlando.
Sixteen participants – 15 from the Central/North American/Caribbean Confederation, plus a guest spot for Qatar, who must be trying to get match experience for their squad ahead of next year’s World Cup. Best two of each group advance to the quarter-finals.
Group A Mexico El Salvador Trinidad and Tobago Guatemala
Group B USA Canada Haiti Martinique
Group C Costa Rica Jamaica Suriname Guadeloupe
Group D Honduras Panama Grenada Qatar
Interesting that France has two teams in the competition, Martinique and Guadeloupe.
The final is on August 1st in Las Vegas

Either Mexico or the USA will win as the other countries aren't up to snuff.

Hope Qatar wins. Best possible representative for North and Central America and the Caribbean islands...

Either Mexico or the USA will win as the other countries aren't up to snuff. Last time that a country other than the USA and Mexico won was in 2000, when Canada won. Of the 10 editions since then, the USA won 5 and Mexico won the other 5.

Meh, not tempted. Too many Mickey Mouse teams. Yeah, I will keep an eye on the results so that you guys don't have to, but I am not inclined to watch any of the matches. Maybe the final, and the semi-final if Canada gets that far.

Yeah exactly. Why even bother having a tournament.

Canadian coverage is via paid subscription.
Call me when it's over. Yes I know the fees help fund the CSA & Canadian Premier League, yet c'mon.

Bloody hell, a tournament where I would rate my clubs chances. Do they let Championship sides enter?

Lots of the matches available on Freeview Channel Freesports, No. 64.
Look like re-runs rather than live though.

Quarter-finals line-up:
Qatar El Salvador
USA Jamaica
Mexico Honduras
Costa Rica Canada
I don’t know what form Costa Rica is in these days but I don’t fancy Canada’s chances against them. But even if we do win, I doubt we’ll get past Mexico in the semi-finals.
Smart money is on another USA x Mexico final.

First semifinal, between the USA and Qatar, still scoreless at e 87th minute. Come on Americans, you can do better than that!

An 86th minute goal from Gyasi Zardes slotted away a pass inside the box to give the United States Men’s National Team a 1-0 win in the Concacaf Gold Cup semifinal.
The USMNT will face the winner of Thursday night’s Mexico-Canada match in Houston on Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas.
