In Predator (1987) I thought it was kinda weird he used a count down timer, that just gave Arnold time to get away (same thing with Glover in the sequel). Wouldn't it have made more sense to just blow them up right away? Or is that just part of his species "warrior culture" to give them a chance to get away?

The Predators were sadistic... Why not invade the entire planet with all that advanced tech instead of skinning a few South American rebels and soldiers in a jungle.

It is for suspense/theatrical reasons obviously, though ck might be correct too. I don't know enough about bombs.
I have always found it silly that Arnold survives the explosion, even with the countdown.

The alien is a sporting hunter, he respects Dutch enough to give him a sliver of a chance. He took off his mask & laser to battle Dutch mano-a-mano earlier.

He took off the stuff because it would be too easy to kill him with the weapons. I think the bomb he wanted to take him with him. In fact, your reason made me think of another reason. He wanted to see Dutch's reaction to knowing he was fucked, which is why I think the fact that he outruns the explosion is ridiculous.
