Expect this to be pretty one sided. I actually like both. I think Bruce Willis does well with what he’s give and I like the question the movie asks “should there be vigilantes taking things into their own hands?” My only issues is this feels strangely very right wing which is odd cause the original movie didn’t have this angle of looking at it and I don’t even think Eli Roth was trying to make it a right wing movie. Also it seemed like they were trying to make Paul Kersey into a superhero or something and somebody to look up to. A weird thing to do for this kind of movie.
Tie for me.

I didn't mind the remake too much, but I definitely prefer the original.

tie
I am not a fan of Charles Bronson generally and Michael Winner is not good unless he is making westerns. The remake is obviously dumber, but it is just more entertaining.

I went into it was low expectations and thought it was okay. It’s kinda funny too cause the theater I saw it at gave me this mini poster saying “Bruce Willis is BACK!!! Death Wish”. He never really went anywhere he’s just starting in direct to dvd movies now and that’s kinda what this felt like it honestly lol.

For some reason, the idea of Bruce in the Charles Bronson role for this has really rubbed me the wrong way.

For some reason, the idea of Bruce in the Charles Bronson role for this has really rubbed me the wrong way. It's one of his better performances from the last 10 years. He actually seems to be having fun this time. The movies are very different in tone and Bruce Willis fits the tone of the remake.

Death Wish (1974)
The remake was way too generic.

While the original is surely the better film, I did not loathe the remake as much as I feared, and I think I rated it rather generously with a 5/10, where as the original lies around an 8/10. Of course, I do sure love the far more over the top and ridiculous later sequels, starting with Death Wish 3 (1985), which takes things far away from the violent and sleazy sequel, which felt more vulgar in tone and style, but something lacked, where as the third one is a damn parody of the whole vigilante/one man army genre, and it worked like magic.
I guess the chances of Bruce returning to do a second Death Wish, is not too big, but looking at all the potential crap he has coming, I would gladly take another Death Wish journey with him as Paul Kersey.
