OK - we didn't get the Lakers pick. But we get Stud #3 to go along with Embiid, Saric and Simmons and a boatload of free agent money. We get the Lakers pick (unprotected) next year and have the 2019 Sac Pick too Eastern Conference is looking like it's 'ours' in 3 years.

Celtics and Lakers. Likely they would have taken the same players in either order. Ball to LA.

Lakers are set on Ball who I didn't want - I'll take either Fultz or Jackson and walk away happy as a fan

Draft Ball (if they consider him the best overall player), then deal him to whoever wants him (Lakers, probably) for their pick, plus extras. it's an intriguing thought apparently Ball is like Jason Kidd. and i loved Kidd. pass first and distribute. traditional PG. and apparently the Lakers are enamored with him. perfect scenario too being he's from UCLA and he's already got a little 'Hollywood' to him with all the controversy with his Dad, shoes, brand, etc. but is he really worth trading up for when Fultz and Jackson are there? and you're going to give up additional assets? i'm sure they're going to be considering everything under the sun. Celts/Sixers fans - what are you thoughts on a trade (I know this is rare in a division) Okafor and #3 to move up to #1? I want Fultz. Think Jackson is a fit on the Celts. #3 they can have Jackson being Ball is going to the Lakers. Or Sixers fans - do you view it too early to give up on Oak?

I've got news for you, Celts may deal that pick to NY. Jackson has been in talks with Celts for over a year to deal Melo there. Celts are 100% interested. A swap of picks, plus a shitload of players and future picks, plus Melo and the Celts give up that 1 pick to the Knicks.
Let's be real, whao exactly would the Celtics pick as #1? Guard heavy draft and they don't need guards. What they do need is another prolific scorer, a veteran, a guy off the bench who can double what Olynyk can do in the blink of an eye. That guy is Melo. Melo on this Celtic team instantly makes them beat Cavs in semis next year. No doubt about that. Melo is the one missing piece for them and they actually have an opportunity to have him.

No joke, Melo is trade bait. And do you think Melo is going to approve a trade to Phoenix? Cavs, LA teams, or Boston are only places Melo is going to say yes to. And Celts have that pretty #1 pick. Trader Phil is definitely going to make a play for it.
Philly has had what, seven number one picks in the past four years? You and I both know they'll pick a guy with ankles, shin bones, and knees made of glass.

I've already read the Clips/Melo talk. It is Austin Rivers, JJ Redick, and bencher Wesley Johnson for Melo. That ain't happening. Uhh, you do know that Melo is an NCAA champion and three time Olympic gold medal winner, right? Now you think that impressive resume is Wesley Johnson trade worthy or first pick trade worthy?

Now you think that impressive resume is Wesley Johnson trade worthy or first pick trade worthy? i'm not a Melo fan. how come he's never won squat. denver - he did have an Aging Iverson to be his 'Robin' to his 'Batman'. been on New York for years and has managed to win squat. i think he'd compliment the Clips nicely. that extra added piece of 'instant offense'. the 2nd, 3rd, 4th piece of the puzzle. piece of the puzzle. not 'the man'. that being said - although i'm not a fan. watching from afar down here in philly - he handled himself like a true professional in the media and i gained a bit of admiration for him on a personal level (not player wise). here's Phil Jackson - The Zen Master - just sitting back and taking every cheap shot he could possibly take - and you had Melo respond like an adult at all times and take the high road as Jackson continued to shockingly make an oaf out of himself. i think at this point its time to turn the page and move on. Zinger's team They've got the 8th pick. Maybe Dennis Smith Jr. will be there or Fox drops. There's the start of a good young team right there.

Melo is a decent dude. Had a fling with a stripper here, but outside of that, he comes to play and plays well.
I don't really follow college so I don't know any of the players in the draft. I know the $495 sneaker guard, watched him play, his ceiling is high. I watch D-League and all of summer league. That's where I spot players. I can pick out talent from those games. Believe me, drafting a 19 year kid out of college is no longer something to get hard over. The great Porzingis was seasoned in those Euro leagues. San Antonio's great Jonathon Simmons was seasoned in the D League. The great Andre Drummond made a name for himself in Summer League. Those are the places you find talent. Draft is a dying thing. One and done and all the other places you can find quality players have renedered the draft passe.

1) Melo isn't worth shit. He's on his last handful of productive years and he still hasn't learned to play defense, he's lazy, he has no competitive fire, and he still has a huge ego. Also, his basketball IQ is like a 64.
But most of all, he has that no trade clause and Jackson is desperate to get rid of him, which means other teams have pretty much all the negotiating power with the Knicks. Once again, the Knicks fuck themselves. They will continue to perennially suck as long as James Dolan owns the team.
2) Boston is in a great position, partly thanks to that Russian idiot who traded the Nets' 2017 pick for rickety-ass Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, under the impression he could buy a championship by bringing in big names. He bought himself a sub-.500 season. Boston doesn't need guards, but plenty of other teams would salivate at the guys in this draft, and Boston could easily land a scoring 3 or 4 to complement Isiah on the offensive end. Future looks bright for Celtics and making it to the conference finals this year is icing on the cake. The postseason experience for this young group of guys is invaluable.
3) I'd like to see the long-suffering Sixers finally have a decent team as much as anyone else, but this is getting ridiculous. They have been richly, obscenely rewarded for their epic tanking streak, and they've squandered so much of their largess on dudes who can't seem to get on the court. They have no excuses not to have a decent year next season.

They have no excuses not to have a decent year next season. as a giant Sixers 'Process' dork and an advocate of tanking. this night was rather glorious to me even though the Lakers Pick never conveyed. they get their unprotected pick next year. sixers were initially granted the #5 pick. due to Sam Hinkie's Brilliance when he fleeced Vlade Divak a couple of years back - he asked for 'swap' rights in the draft. i.e. if the kings lucked out and got a better pick - Sixers would have the right to 'swap'. so the Sixers moved up from #5 to #3. may not seem like a big deal. i beg to differ. Lakers are enamored with Ball. you can have him. (i'm a fan - but we already have a play making distributor in Simmons making his debut next year) no clue what's on the Celt's minds - but i'm thinking that leaves Fultz or Jackson to fall into the Sixers laps

Or just have competent owners and management, that way you could've been like Boston: go to the playoffs the last three years, get the #1 seed and make your way to the conference finals, and still end up with the #1 pick thanks to shrewd moves by your front office.
Or you could throw out a shitty product for your fans to suffer through for years and they'll celebrate a hypothetical success story that's still 3 years off in their minds. I know where I'd rather be right now.
