Almost ruins the film. I’m not even some SJW type and that scene is pretty insulting. Change yourself completely to please someone else? What was Hughes thinking? Not to mention she looked better before the makeover so it makes no sense

I think some of the cast members have had some criticism over this particular scene.

I agree, it puts a damper on the whole movie. This is a film that celebrates individualism, yet at the same time tells us that all girls should be Molly Ringwald. Looking back, it seems like a bad move.

www.yahoo.com/entertainment/ally-sheedy-says-she-fought-134840517.htmlAlly Sheedy says she fought John Hughes over controversial Breakfast Club makeover scene
"Ally Sheedy has revealed that she disliked the makeover given to her character in the iconic 1980s teen movie The Breakfast Club. Speaking to The Independent ahead of the 35th anniversary of the film's UK release, Sheedy revealed that she fought director John Hughes over the scene. It depicts her oddball outsider character Allison swapping her black wardrobe for a pink dress. Many fans of the film have criticized the moment. “Listen, it was Hollywood in the Eighties,” Sheedy explained. “They wanted to take the ugly duckling and make her into a swan. I didn’t want anyone to be putting makeup on my face, so I tried to negotiate with John that it would be about taking stuff off, or Allison taking down this wall that she had put up to keep people at arm’s length.” Sheedy starred in the film alongside Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall, Emilio Estevez and Judd Nelson. It revolves around five disparate teenagers forced to interact with one another for the first time during Saturday detention."

I love The Breakfast Club but it's the dancing scene that makes me cringe. Emilio Estevez literally shouts a glass door into pieces.
That's totally true, by the way. Sheedy did look more beautiful before the makeover.

I agree. I mean Ally Sheedy is beautiful regardless and maybe their saying it was more of a boost to her old self confidence moment…but at least they could’ve kept some of her basket case vibes and not had her go totally pink with it. But I suppose Claire was the one with the extra clothes so.

Yeah, people are criticizing the film because of the makeover? I hated this film when it was new mainly because of the stupid dancing montage and the glass blowing up! I’m not a huge fan of Hughes to begin with but this is one of his worst films.
