Anyone remember this film? My recollection is different from the IMDB synopsis. According to the IMDB storyline, I saw this in a theater which means it was at least 50 years ago. My recollection is that furniture had nothing to do with this story. My recollection is that Adelina is arrested for selling black market cigarettes and is sentenced to jail. When they find out she is pregnant, the sentence is deferred until six (?) months after the birth. Adelina spends the next five (?) years in a constant state of pregnancy in order to avoid jail. Carmine is exhausted. In one scene, Adelina is cooking over a stove when the sheriff shows up to take her to jail. Without taking her eyes off the stove, she reaches into the apron pocket and hands the sheriff a doctor's note announcing her pregnancy.
What's your recollection?

I watched it between 5 and 10 years ago and my recollection matches yours.
I own it on DVD. I will have a look tonight and let you know what I find.

Actually neither of the two versions is exactly right. The movie starts with a bailiff arriving in front of their home in a truck and informing Carmine (Marcello Mastroianni) that the furniture will be confiscated in order to pay for a fine of 28 thousand liras (inflated to 50 thousand because of interest, fees and penalties) incurred by Adelina. The fine was indeed for selling cigarettes illegally on the street. But the furniture has been hidden away at various neighbours, so the bailiff has to leave with nothing, which then leads to the threat of sending her to prison. The synopsis is wrong about unpaid furniture being the reason for their troubles, but furniture does come into play.

It was a solid and amusing obscure comedy.
