For anyone that's never read it, it's an epic fantasy that features something like 14 novels in the series. He died before finishing but he allowed another author, Brandon Sanderson, to take his memoirs and notes and what have you and finish writing it so that it ended in the way he intended it to. It is also about to be an Amazon prime show. Ive just finished book 7 of the series titles A Crown of Swords and I must say it was quite enjoyable. I had read the first 6 novels in the series about 8 or 9 years ago and then i stalled on them because i felt kind of burnt out. Didn't pick the next one up until a year or so ago and finally got around to it earlier this summer, finishing it today.
Has anyone here read this series?

Heard of them but never read any of them. Apparently someone thinks they got the next big fantasy franchise on their hands since we're now getting a movie trilogy on top of a television series based off that particular series.

It has the potential to be...and im only halfway thru. But whether or not Amazon Prime can do the books justice is yet to be seen. I think the movie trilogy is extra material not involved with the show and not covered with the books. Book fans are very wary of what those movies will be as they could tarnish the shows rep before it even settles in. Hope its good tho. The first book is very Lord of the Rings inspired but it branches away pretty heavily after that.

Personally I’m more excited for this because the lord of the rings already has several adaptations and I’d be really curious to see how Jordan’s world comes to life. I really hope they don’t botch it and the characters remain true to form.

I've been listening to the audio-books on and off for the past 5 years. Currently up to Book 12. The early ones were great but it gets very slow as it goes on. I also find the whole "Battle of the Sexes" stuff where a male/female character will rant about women/men extremely tedious. Aviendha in particular is an obnoxious character. And RJ clearly had a spanking fetish. Still, it continues to have great moments and excellent world building - I particularly like anything with the Forsaken. Interested to see how it all ends.

Comparing the WoT to LotR...Moiraine is a Gandalf type character. Very strong magic user and kind of jump starts the adventure for many of the other main characters. Good looking still shot.

I read Book 1 and even though I knew it was a continuous story I sort of expected that it would come to some sort of stopping place and pick up somewhere else in Book 2. But no, there might as well not have been any Book 1 or Book 2 with a different title. It was going to go on straight through forever and never end. About halfway through #2, I bailed.
At least The Lord Of The Rings was never intended to be three volumes but even then the story was divided by the publishers in such a way that he first two titles ended at a stopping point.

Years ago, my sister bought me a book that turned out to be the second in a then-ongoing series. I read it, despite having not read the first book, and fell in love with the characters so I hunted up the first and third books, and have now read the entire series as well as the offshoots and sequel series. But honestly, I think when you like books of a different genre than your loved one, they tend to see a book cover that makes them think of books off your shelf, so they give it a brief once-over for the plot, and then throw it into the cart. You can discover a real gem that way though, so I'll never complain (I once got a doll that was permanently scowling and crying, as a gift. After that, I'll never complain about someone getting me a book) May have to look up these Wheel of Time books. I know I've seen them around, just never got into them. I admit, while I love ensemble casts for shows and movies, in books I tend to prefer them to have 2-3 leading antagonists and one or two villains. More than that, and I always feel like I'm jumping around too much and don't get to spend enough time with any one of them to get invested.

I started reading the first book back in the late 90's, and really enjoyed it. For me the first seven books were the most enjoyable. Books 8-10 less so, and I still haven't gotten around to reading the last four (11-14) books. I love the characters and the worldbuilding, though, and it'll be interesting to see how it all comes to life in the TV show.

Looks like it could be interesting.
