I'm sold on sport climbing as an olympic cport. Lots of young people climb, not just in competition but rock climbing. It has a mature international competition system, and is fun to watch. Janja Garnbrett blitzed the womens competition as she was expected to do, but there are lots of other good climbers to keep the competition interesting. I liked the side by side races up the 15m βcliffβ, but the bit where they were climbing sideways near to the ground was piss poor. Half of them didnβt get anywhere!

Women's volleyball semifinals: Brazil South Korea Serbia USA It will be Brazil vs USA in the final. Brazil has won the Gold twice, in Beijing and then again in London, both times at the expense of the Americans. Unlike their male counterparts, the American women have never won Olympic gold. They have dominated the new Nations League though, winning all three editions so far, starting in 2018.

Saw that. Think she'll take a detour to the glue factory after the games?

I don't if this is live, but an American woman is in the leading pack of women's marathon with about 4 miles to go.

Yes, I wonder if they were making the boulders so hard to give Garnbrett a challenge, but found she was so good she left everybody else for dead. There are a couple of other climbers maybe almost as good as Garnbrett at boulder who didnt make the final. The scoring was weird, multiplying each persons position in each of the 3 events instead of adding them. All I can think of there is that it would give the first place competitors in each event a big advantage. For example Gambrett came 5th out of 8 in the speed and first in the other 2 events, giving 5 Γ 1 Γ 1 = 5. If somebody came 2nd in each event they would score 2 Γ 2 Γ 2 = 8, not as good. If scores were added instead it would come out the opposite 7 vs 6.

Garnbrett was the only one to top the final boulders, and was the winner after the second, so didn't bother dong the third boulder. Did you see the Lead event? That was a bit more exciting. The scoring system made the placings unknown till the last competitor. Like the skateboard, it looked like the competitors are friends and compete with each other regularly, so their country was less relevant than in traditional sports. Good to see.

The horse was already acting up and they gave it to another athlete? That seems wrong. It's like giving a cyclist a bike with no chain.
