4/10 for me. As I wrote in the horrorthon thread, Wan tried to tell me a scary story with too many words instead of letting me experience it. Chop 20 minutes out of this thing and it would be a much better movie. Cut the sister, mom, and tighten up some character decision-making and you'd have a good movie.

I’d prob give it a solid 7. It’s not scary…but I love the elements at play. It leans into the goofiness with everything it has and most of the characters help that along.

I've softened on this a little bit. I still can't really say that I think it's good, but after reading a lot of the reaction here and around the internet I think I can understand why more people found it entertaining and why Wan's style works better when he's knowingly being ridiculous than when he's trying to be earnest.

I definitely think knowing not to take it too seriously is a big factor in whether or not you’ll enjoy it. There are cues, but it can be easy to overlook them as quirky acting performances. The over the top intro scene gave off such an odd tone that when things went off the rails it allowed me to put enough together. The weapon making montage was another big red flag for me. Not that you have to enjoy it…it’s definitely not gonna be everyone’s cup of tea…but anyone I recommend the film to I tell them it’s pretty bonkers and don’t take it too seriously.

This is a good reminder to go ahead and try it.

I had this in my queue for October but got spoiled on the ending. Leave that what you will.

A sequel might happen.

Meh... I kind of hope not. Feels like a good one and done. Feels like they'd drag it out. Guess we'll see. Gotta say I wasn't really into the movie until a good hour in... and it goes gloriously off the rails. The lead actor reminded me of a younger Barbara Hershey... I liked the supporting cast too... Especially the Detectives and the Sister.

Just seen it, it starts off a bit like giallo and then the last 40 minutes are nuts with nods to 70s exploitation and Kung Fu.
Think The Unborn on steroids

I wanted to like it, since I love classic Italian horror, but it looked so artificial, was filled with bland characters and failed to scare me even once. And the score was awful too.
4.5/10

James Wan on a sequel: "...This is what I would say for Malignant 2. If the fans want it, I want them to make a big noise with the studio. And that’s how you did it. #RestoreTheMalignantUniverse. That’s what needs to be done for a Malignant 2 to happen." screenrant.com/malignant-2-chances-james-wan-director-response/

Had it been in theaters I'm sure it would have made a good box office haul. A sequel would be a pretty sure bet for the studio. He may have luck with this approach, but I feel like the studio should know when they have a hit. Then again, it is Warner Bros. and they seem to specialize in not knowing when they have a hit and ruining a good thing at this point. So who the hell knows what they're thinking..?

I saw that. I'm not really on board, but that's just me. The director of Maximum Overdrive and #1 hater of Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, seems fair.

"Let me just say we have a lot of stuff going on right now. Malignant 2 is not necessarily at the top," Wan shared with Screen Rant. "But we're definitely keeping Akela very busy, I can tell you that."
