When Simmons last graced your television screen, his already suspect offensive game vanished entirely, leaving an otherwise formidable Sixers roster at the mercy of any opponent that can, like, shoot the ball. Simmons could have pulled this disappearing act with any franchise and engendered just as much fierce hostility from his own fans (not to mention his own teammates). But he plays in Philadelphia, a town filled with people who forever labor under the assumption that their ability to bitch about their own is novel and charming. So Simmons’ chokejob against the Atlanta Hawks already spawned its own cottage industry of provincial takeage.
