Bill Maher: "You know who doesn't care about a "racist" Chinese character in a doctor Suess book? Chinese people. Not 1 out of 1.3 billion could give a Crouching Tiger Hidden Fuck."
"You know they actually interviewed American Indians about the racist Washington Redskins: 93% of them couldn't give a shit."

The Logo: The letter "G" on top of a baseball with wings. Isn't that cute?

The Logo: The letter "G" on top of a baseball with wings. Isn't that cute? The G purposefully wraps around and protects the baseball — guarding everything that makes this game great.

Florida State has expressed permission from Seminole tribal leadership. Different situation altogether. The use should either be considered racist or not regardless of the asking. The asking is nice, but I have to think that Seminole leaders aren't allowing it if they find the use offensive. They don't find offensive. Different situation entirely. For one, the idea of never being asked is part of what some find offensive. I'm not claiming to fully understand it, I'm just relaying what I've heard. As far as the name 'Indian,' opinions vary. Some native people use that as a name to describe themselves, and others don't. Names like Braves, Indians, and Seminoles were never nearly as controversial as Red Men or Redskins, which is obviously just a slur. Good on Cleveland for at least choosing a name, by the way. It may not be a great one, but at least they made a fucking choice, unlike doofus Dan Snyder.

“The team formerly known as the Cleveland Indians” would’ve been better imo. Willing to bet actual Native American people don’t give 2 shits about this. 90% don't. And in cases where the team name is an actual tribe, you don't see the same argument. There is no traction to lose Seminoles. I think with the Indians it was more a case of the logo being offensive. Chief Wahoo was a cartoony stereotype in the same vein as Looney Tunes or Tom and Jerry portraying black stereotypes. That being said it’s probably best not to have an ethnic group as your team logo no matter your intentions.

The Guardians!?! Meh. It’ll have to grow on me. I would’ve liked the Rockers or the Spiders better.

It’s not so bad. I think it’ll grow on me. People would’ve bitched about it no matter how good or bad it was. I’m glad the Indians name is gone though.

Something more identifiable with the region would've been better. Guardians sounds pretty lame and generic. I kinda dig the new logo, though.

I would have gone with Cleveland Commanders. And a logo of the state flag of Ohio on the uniform and hat.
That would have been respectful. Every time someone says Browns or Cavz, no respect is shown.

I was for Spiders too but I guess the 1899 Spider legacy was too much.

Chicago Blackhawks, you're on the clock. The Chiefs will be the last to go. Chicago Black Hawks. Problem solved. They were the Black Hawks from 1927-1986. Named after the original owners World War I Infantry Division. I can see the logo eventually getting changed.

How Washington Wizards of them. I always thought that Spiders would've been the most popular choice, & yet there's a whole kettle of fish about ppl throwing live spiders on visiting players or something that got avoided.
The logo looks rather juvenile right now. Maybe if the ball were gripped with both a C & G, it could be seen uniquely from either side of the ball.
