Some of you probably know this and others may not, so i thought Id share the sad news that Sulla has passed away several months ago. He had been having some medical issues these past few years and I guess they finally caught up to him. I had first stumbled across the IMDB message boards way back in 2005. Back then there were plenty of websites and no doubt a variety of message boards to choose from. These were the days before Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat...and maybe even Myspace. I had come there to discuss one of my loves, movies. Somehow i got sucked into the wretched hive of filth and villainy that was the Passion of the Christ board...which was IMDBs de facto debate area for religious conversation. I had gone there to rile some people up and make a few jokes....but what actually happened was I got to know many of them close enough to consider friend. Sulla says he first got to that board in the same year but I'll always remember how much respect his name carried already. As if he had immediate become old hat...a somewhat authoritative father figure to most of us knuckleheads. At least that's how i viewed him. His interests and knowledge was vast...being able to have conversations ranging from art to music to history to just about anything. I'd had several private conversations with him these past few years and he always seemed to have a nugget of wisdom that he was more than happy to share. I'd be lying if i said i didn't shed a tear these past few days after i found out. I have regrets that i never got to know him better outside of these boards or visit him IRL and have a beer together and laugh. I'll always cherish the conversations we've had over these past 15 years or so. Rest in Peace old friend In the off chance that someone actually didn't like Sulla (which i find impossible to believe) Id ask you not to say anything bad. Try and keep this thread kind please. I don’t recall have any negative interactions with him and he had (still has) one of my favourite avatars.

I was unaware of his passing, and I'm saddened to hear of it, today.
I never saw, or commented on The Passion of the Christ, so I can't speak to that extended discussion. But, as I recall his contributions to other boards, thoughtfulness and grace are two words that come to mind.
Thank you for sharing this with us.

I only knew Sulla from imdb2 but always enjoyed our brief interactions. He seemed to have great passion for art and culture. I thought he was a gentleman, that was my impression.
My thoughts to his family and friends - hopefully we all see each other again someday in another life.
May he rest in peace.

I too only knew Sulla from the IMDB v2.1. He made occasional, but memorable, contributions to the Movie Quotes board. I am saddened to hear of his passing. In tribute to him, I will repeat my post from the Spartacus (1960) quote thread, which I know he appreciated: Marcus Licinius Crassus: Are you not aware of Rome's most ancient law? That no General may enter the city at the head of his armed legions? Marcus Publius Glabrus: Sulla did. Marcus Licinius Crassus: Sulla? To the infamy of his name! To the utter damnation of his line.

Very very sad to hear this, Marv. He will forever remain one of my all-time favourite posters.
There was no way not to love Sulla and his presence was always pleasant. He was vastly knowledgeable but very humble. We used to talk a lot. Not just on RFS board of original IMDB but also through personal messages. I had even told him I was going to meet him sometime in future and he said definitely yes unless there was a health issue. Unfortunately there was a health issue as he had informed me a year and a half ago. I have no words to say except that I will remember him fondly forever.

That's sad to hear. One time I quoted that "infamy of his name" line from Spartacus as a joke response in a topic and he was very flattering about it.

I loved him and we went way back.
On my profile there are only two posters I follow. I will leave him there as a lasting tribute.

RIP, my friend.

That’s a huge bummer. I never interacted with him but I knew the name and was familiar with the avatar.

I loved Sulla, too, he and I had a special connection, we were both fans of "Northern Exposure" and PM'd about it quite a bit.
He said once that when he died, he hoped he would end up in Cicely, Alaska. I hope his wish came true. I miss him terribly. He was always the gentleman, and a kind soul. May he rest in peace. I will play Mozart's Requiem Mass in his honor, on my iPod. We also shared a love of classical music.

Thank you for posting this Marv. I am sorry to hear about Sulla. I talked to him a number of times on this section and over on the music board and he was always friendly to me and come across as a king, warm, funny and knowledgeable person and I liked him and was wondering where he had gone to when I returned earlier this year but I guess now we know. He will be missed and was a great contributor to this forum.
This is off topic but I have to ask. Does anybody know what happened to Toasted Cheese?
