An example would be those people who cover themselves and everything they own in American flags to prove how much they love Amurrica!
Especially when they buy all their products from China.

Virtue signaling doesn't exist. It is not a Thing. It is a conservative created comeback to divert, change the subject, and/or mock progressive efforts. Also in this same category are: SJW, woke, cancel culture, and political correctness. They have no real meaning and are therefore perfect for use by MAGAs. Progressives should not be using any of these words and phrases.

Woke, SJW, and political correctness terms originated in so-called left wing politics, then used by the right as pejoratives. Not sure about "cancel culture." They are a thing, and do have meaning. A lot of this stuff going on today is not progressivism, definitely not liberalism which was the ideology behind individual liberty, democracy, and capitalism; it's an attempt to replace individual rights with group or identity rights.

replace individual rights with group or identity rights.
Uh...replace individual rights with group or identity rights? What does that mean exactly? What "individual rights?" The right to exclude from your school or business or society any sub-group of individuals you want? To, for example, by law forbid a loving couple of the same sex to sign a marriage contract? Or to deny a person the gender identity they really are? That is usually what is meant when someone invokes either individual rights or religious freedom. You know, the deeply held beliefs that religion can be used to make other people's lives miserable.

You've spent too much time arguing with tribalists. Societies are organized with laws. Liberalism is about individual liberty and equality. It doesn't mean that you are special for being different, or special for being average, it doesn't mean everyone has to bake you cakes. That means I get to do things you don't like, and you get to do things I don't like, and wrong is a matter of law. Obviously in practice it isn't perfect, but we keep trying to make it perfect and that is progressivism.

Virtue signaling didn't exist, until someone came up with the term virtue signaling. Before that it was just called "doing what you thought was right." The truth is, we ALL virtue signal. ALL OF US. When you write a post saying you find virtue signaling annoying, that's YOU signaling a virtue you have. Wow, huh? Who woulda thunk it? Actually the concept of virtue signaling has existed long before the term. There's a difference between doing the right thing from the goodness of your heart vs doing it for attention and praise. Of course the concept existed before the term, but the term is some new thing that is being used to denigrate the concept. And what's really the difference between doing something from goodness or for praise if the end result is the same? If a poor kid gets fed either way what difference does it make to the poor kid? My point is that EVERYONE virtue signals because EVERYONE has virtues. When someone says "I hate virtue signaling!" That's them signaling their virtue that they hate virtue signaling. We all do it whether you call it that or not.
