Do you feel like sometimes just drinking water by itself is too strong? And then you need something to make it easier to drink so then you put ice in it? or do you always drink it straight up?

I stick my water in the freezer for an hour. I like it icy cold. It creates it's own ice cube.

I'm weird, I like my water at room temperature. A couple of years ago I came home from shopping and was extremely hot, took a bottle of cold water and started chugging in down, suddenly I was gasping - I think I was actually drowning, I had to press against the kitchen sink until all the water I had drunk came up. It was a frightening moment- I had heard a person can drown on a sip of water. Since that time I just drink room temperature water and from a glass and not a bottle.

Icy. About half and half between with ice and without, as my water cooler is pretty cold. I sometimes add lime powder.
I tend to down large amounts of water or seltzer quickly.
Often wonder if the large amounts of CO2 I take in could be a problem. Even with earth-shattering belches.

Or, maybe we're mutually weird. If I want a glass of water, I'll turn on the tap to get a glass of water, with no ice. (I have to add I live in a place that does not get very hot, even during the summer.) I love the refreshing nature of carbonated waters that have a mild fruit background ... no sweeteners. My favorite is Safeway's "Mixed Berry," seltzer water. When friends come over, I put some cans in the fridge for them. If they don't have any, I take it out to get room temp. The fruit taste in that line is subtle. If the temp is too cold, it's not discernible at all.

I never put ice cubes on water.
At home I drink water at room temperature. I never fill a jar and put it in the fridge. But if I am out and I have to buy a bottle of water, it has to be cold.

Room temperature is supposed to be better for you. Sounds like you breathed it in, likely due to the large bottle opening, though the cold caused some constriction and thicker mucus. My mom had a hard time drinking straight water after almost drowning as a kid.

I drink lots of water so usually as cold as the tap can make it. No ice. But will also fill a Brita and drink from the container. If I buy a bottle, depends on thirst - but usually cold.

My tap water from the kitchen sink is always the perfect temp for me: very cool, but "cold" cold. As such, I can guzzle a whole cup of water at one go without having any sort of uncomfortable freeze-up. Also, I *hate* ice cubes in my water, say, at restaurants: I always pick up some sort of plastic after-taste.
BTW, I notice some other posters here are tap water drinkers, too. That's good to hear. Though I do occasionally like to imbibe bottled carbonated water - Perrier, San Pelligrino or Topo Chico - plain old tap water from the kitchen is my main source of hydration.
