Cars that have a camera that shows behind the vehicle, so when you back up does that make it easier? I don't know, i'd assume it may make it easier because then you dont have to look behind you while backing up.
Or maybe it isn't safe to just go by the camera footage while backing up. I"ve never drove a car that has this.

Catman has driven rentals with that feature and found it rather useless.

I rode in 3 cars recently with that feature and liked it. I remember believing that I would never own a car with electric windows and locks, anyone too lazy to roll up their own windows shouldn't be behind the wheel ... the fatuities of youth.

I think it's useful, but for some reason it's hard to incorporate the image from the back up camera into my mental 360 degree view that I have normally formed by looking around and using the mirrors. For some reason my mind compartmentalizes the images separately. But overall, I like it...I can take a look directly behind me via the camera and then do my looking around with mirrors and turning my head, then every second or two, as I back up, I look at the rear camera but I don't think I use it as efficiently as possible. I liken it to convex mirrors on my rearview mirrors. I took the time 40 years ago to learn how to use them and have found them really valuable. But I know lots of people just don't find them useful.

Given that not many people actually walk around to look behind their cars for objects and children and whatnot before they get in and back up, I'd say rear cameras are safer than just half a glance in a mirror.
