How and why do you attribute this to the 'left'? Whatever you think that is. The Left is one of 2 major US political tribes, currently aligned with the Democratic Party. Sometimes called Liberals, but it's a mish-mash of ideologies (liberal and non-liberal) that are all opposed to the other major political tribe, The Right, which treats them like enemies. Don't think too hard on it, they don't. I don't know the history of the word, Woke, but it means you have awakened to inequalities built into our society. The Woke believe that equal opportunity is not enough, that everyone should receive equal treatment, which leads to The Right calling them Marxists. If this is meant for me, I do know all that; I am not a rightist. Being 'woke' to the fact that everyone should have equal opportunities is a good thing, I just think some are taking it too far as in the 'warning' mentioned in my original post.

A fan of Rush Limbaugh. Back in the 90s they would call into the show and say, "ditto," or extend, "dittos," (a form of greeting) to show they agree with everything Rush said; eventually calling themselves dittoheads or dittos for short. A cult. Thanks.

It was a reply to Goz, who is Australian and doesn't understand US politics, so I gave her a somewhat textbook explanation. It was not my opinion on wokeness or whatever you call it. Some are taking it too far because they believe everything they see on television and the internet that reinforces the mythology they've been taught. Left and Right tribes are no different in that regard.

I'm British so I thought that you might think I don't know anything about the American system. I think non-Americans know a lot more about your government than Americans do about how governments work in the rest of the world. I agree with you about the influence of the media, for good or bad but mostly bad, in my opinion, on both right and left wing groups.

Most Americans don't know how their own govt works, let alone yours or anyone else's, especially when it comes to the Electoral College. Most slept through high school civics then woke up one day pissed off because citizens don't elect the president. So we have one party trying to marginalize the votes outside of cities, the other party trying to marginalize votes inside cities. Good thing we have the EC.
