I'm betting future actor contracts for movies will have them want a big piece of streaming profits.

Good for her! F*** Disney Plus. This should’ve been a theatrical only release.

Disney is fighting back against Scarlett: movieweb.com/disney-responds-scarlett-johansson-black-widow-lawsuit/?fbclid=IwAR1pjHg7OeGE7T9rjynr6foyEgnGbZ7L3JwYPrnqJGiRmag945HHS7l7FnYDisney Hits Back at Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow Lawsuit: There Is No Merit Whatsoever "A spokesperson for the Walt Disney Company said, "There is no merit whatsoever to this filing. The lawsuit is especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. Disney has fully complied with Ms. Johansson's contract and furthermore, the release of Black Widow on Disney+ with Premier Access has significantly enhanced her ability to earn additional compensation on top of the $20M she has received to date.""

Well, at least we can rest assured a character in the MCU is capable of staying dead.

At this point I doubt she would have made as much money as she thought she was going to even if was a theatrical exclusive. 🤷‍♀️

You know, I'm starting to hate Disney with a passion with how they've been handling IP's these last few years and I also dislike how they handle business. They feel too much of a bully.
BUT... this is one issue I might side with Disney on.
The streaming services definitely took its toll on BW's potential earnings, but I don't think it had as big an effect as Scarjo thinks. What really took a toll on box office was the pandemic, and it feels a bit callous of Scarjo to ignore the fact that we're still in a pandemic and try to blame it all on Disney (that and the fact that it wasn't really that great of a movie). Especially when you consider that Scarjo is one of the highest earning actresses of recent years, this just seems like quite the shallow move.
The streaming services did make it easier for people to watch her movie after all, people who would have otherwise not wanted to go and watch it in the theater. Besides, it's not like the movie was streamed for free. It was pretty darn expensive still and that still helped the movie earn money.

Besides, it's not like the movie was streamed for free. It was pretty darn expensive still and that still helped the movie earn money. Like I said above, I don't think she was going to make as much as she thinks even if it were released solely in theatres. Even if the US is completely open, other countries are still shuffling in and out of lockdowns and these movies have been pretty reliant on the international BO for a long time. Couple that with the fact that word of mouth has been okay at best, and it's far from a "must see" as her character is already dead and it's not like it's a proper prequel...it was never going to do as well as thinks. In a non-Covid world, sure. But that's not the reality we live in anymore, unless they delayed it even further. I don't care for ScarJo at all, but it is fucked up that they never renegotiated her contract. From a workers rights perspective, I hope she wins even though I dislike her. But frankly I don't care if she only got 20 million when she expected 65 million or whatever.

If you believe Grace Randolph's research, she's saying Scarjo got paid $20 million + a share of the premiere access sales of BW in Disney+, but what Scarjo wants in the lawsuit is to get a share of the subscription income of Disney+ as a whole.

That's ridiculous. She should only get a share of the money that people directly spent on BW.

Emma Stone can forget it, Cruella was never going to be a success while Marvel has a proven track record.

That's ridiculous. She should only get a share of the money that people directly spent on BW. Apparently her reasoning is that her movie drove people to subscribe to D+ which is why she wants a share of it. If it's true that this is her stipulations, I just can't see Disney giving in. Because if they do, other stars are going to want the same.
