While the events of the Seinfeld finale would be serious in reality, they were handled was with the same humor and detachment as any other episode of the show. I didn't see it as ending on a "serious" note

Blackadder's already been mentioned, so I'd have to second it. One of the most moving and powerful endings for a comedic show ever.
MASH, while maybe a bit on the lengthy side, is also right up there.
For me, Barney Miller, with the station being sold as an historic site, the 12th's gang disbanded, and Barney in the final scene turning off the lights in the squadroom as everyone leaves for the last time, is crazy saddening with its 'life goes on' tone. Still makes me get teary whenever I can bring myself to watch that final episode again.

The finale of The Mary Tyler Moore Show also has a bittersweet moment with the lights being turned out.

Would the episode where Edith dies on "All in the Family" count? The show had some serious topics. Like when Edith is almost raped by an Intruder. Or her Drag Queen friend Beverly is murdered.

Although Barry was always a dark show, I was still unprepared for how it all would wind up.

DINOSAURS was a light-hearted comedy, but the final episode showed how upper echelon incompetence ended up causing the Ice Age. The final scene had the main family huddled in their home as it snowed endlessly outside. The father tries to assure them, "We've been around for millions of years. It's not like we're gonna just.... disappear." The closing credits, normally bouncy music, instead showed the snow falling in the outside darkness with somber music playing.

Roseanne - winning the lottery was a fantasy and the family is still poor, the kids dated different people than the couples that you grew to love, and Dan is fucking dead.
