With all this lunacy about the deadline, forgot games were actually being played today.

I ended up selling my tickets to tonight's game, but it's the return of (i) Carlos Carrasco, AND (ii) the Mets black jerseys, being worn for the first time in 9 years. That's right baby. We don't need fancy acquisitions, we just need to get healthy. Carrasco marks the start of that path. deGrom is back next week, Syndergaard and Lindor to follow, along with Michael Conforto righting the ship and Alonso's continued 2nd half assault mean good things for the Amazins over these final 2 months.
Edit - kiss of death. DeGrom shut down for 2 weeks due to shoulder inflammation.

Javy Baez wasn't a fancy acquisition?
I hate the black jerseys

I'm largely indifferent to the black jerseys, but if it gets the plebeians excited, then so be it. Baez is a massive defensive upgrade over Jeff McNeil and JD Davis, and once Lindor returns, it means those 2 guys can platoon which is probably a good way to maximize both of them, and keep only one of them on the field at any given time. He'll hit homeruns, but he strikes out so fucking much that it will undoubtedly be infuriating. I'm fine with it, although I would have preferred either of Bryant or Story.

I can't figure out why the Rockies kept Story. There's zero chance of him to resign with Colorado. So they throw a qualifying offer at him that his agent will get a belly laugh over and he will go elsewhere and the Rox will get a compensatory pick at the end of the '22 1st round. Whee. There's been some decent picks in that area, Ke'Bryan Hayes, Jack Flaherty but a lot more misses.
Not that the Rockies are going anywhere. There's going to be a lot of lousy teams next year. Cubs, Nats, Twins, Rockies, Diamondbacks, Orioles (sorry Nut, couple more years), Rangers, Pirates.

It makes absolutely no sense and it wasn't for a lack of suitors. The Mets, Jays and Rays were all involved in talks over the past few days. Maybe they were worried about getting too much in return, for fear of having to pay someone again in the coming years.

Story isn't having a great year, so maybe the market was too low or non-existent. Teams scared away, thinking he's hiding an injury. You didn't hear a lot of rumors. Why they didn't trade him in the offseason like Arenado is beyond me. It was a sellers market but a team never gets what it should in July as opposed to the offseason
