I worked as a vet tech for 4 long years, the ridiculous amount of overwork we had during the pandemic steered me far away from the occupation, now I work at a low stress climbing gym But I do have very strong opinions on this, you can never go wrong with australian shepherds/aussie cattledogs and Collie's. Never met a mean pitbull and boxer's are all lil' sweethearts. If it's puntable, it's not a dog and german shepherds are the goddamn worst.

Beatles, vocal, howl at the moon and everything else, otherwise good little dogs. Malamutes, 120lb nuclear powered chewing machines that howl at the moon, smart, impossible to wear them out. Chow Chows, chill, assertive, loyal to the alpha, less a family dog. Doberman, don't know if the one we had was typical but he was a loner, not very warm and fuzzy, and he had ... issues that may have come from improper security trng. He would instantly attack anyone wearing black, or black people, so he came to live with us on the farm. Border Collie, damn smart, fun, lovable, protective, best dog I've ever had. Coonhound, vocal, not much of a personality but they sure love hunting. Great Danes, big ol' lovable dogs. Pit Bulls, energetic, loveable, love to run and fetch, but dangerous in the wrong hands. Pugs, my aunt kept pugs and they were always fun and playful. Golden, happiness incarnate

She's a big dog in a small dog's body. And my Eskimo is one of the smartest dogs I ever met. What's wrong with Shepards? My next dog will be a breed/mix with a good temperament to be a therapy dog.

I will say that I can be charmed by small dogs on occasion! I love my parents lil rat terrier. Shepherds are extremely nervous and skiddish, all my work related injuries have been from them. I just don’t trust em.

Most of the dog bites we have seen have come from the Shepherds. Not the Pitties. All the Pitties I've come across have been loveable little dopes.
There are some cute Terriers out there!

Reputable for being great with children. Perfect size, not unmanageably large but large enough to where it feels like their frame fits their protective character trait. Minimal shedding is a plus as well. Golden retrievers are probably the ultimate family dog, great with youngsters. A little dumb, but they’re the sweetest of them all and very loyal. Shedding is a pain though.

Anything aggressive enough to attack is going to need a firm hand (very experienced trainer) and even then can't be trusted alone. Herding dogs are highly intelligent and very protective, they will anticipate danger and react.

I prefer mutts, and rescues as opposed to putting money into the pockets of breeders. I like Aussie mixes. Yep, I am also nuts for mutts. However, of the ones provided, I checked Golden Retrievers; if I had had the option of picking more than one, I would have probably picked pugs as a second choice. If you had broken out "bulldogs" into various varieties, I would have picked Frenchies. Most of the time, they look sooo mournful; but when they smile that ear-to-ear grin, it's like the sun coming out on a cloudy day. Still, it's mutts for me. My family had two--spaced some years apart--beagle-fox terrier mixes, both from local pounds (as they used to call shelters). They were both wonderful dogs, with the nipped-in waist and springy legs of the terrier and the tri-color coat and soulful eyes of the beagle. I still miss them, more than sixty years later for the first one, and more than fifty for the second.

I want to adopt a Corgi or Corgi mix because my understanding is they make good therapy dogs.

Breeds do have a character they inherent, but they also adopt the character of their pack (you).

Great dogs. The ones I've known were big babies.
