Rich Barnes USA TODAY Sports
Could the "Austin Bills" soon be a thing in the NFL? That really depends on what happens with the ongoing negotiations between the ownership brass of the Buffalo Bills, the state of New York, and Erie County. That said, an ownership source told ESPN's Seth Wickersham that Austin, Texas is a possible destination -- or threat -- as one of the "other cities elsewhere that desire an NFL franchise and would pay handsomely for it."
This news comes as Bills ownership put forward an initial $1.5 billion proposal for a new stadium in Orchard Park that is entirely taxpayer-funded, according to The Buffalo News. Part of that proposal would also help fund renovations for the Buffalo Sabres arena in downtown Buffalo, which is also owned by Pegula Sports and Entertainment.
The proposal states that this new stadium in Orchard Park would be a county-owned facility and would be built directly next to the team's existing stadium so there would be no need for a temporary relocation. However, the idea of such a payment system would reportedly be a non-starter for local officials.

Doubt it. I don’t see the Pegula’s selling or moving the team. Just pressure to get a much needed new stadium. I doubt the state of New York will let the only NY based team to leave

I thought these were supposed to be the best fans in the NFL? But yet they don't want to pay for a new stadium for their team which would also help out the Sabres?

“The Pegulas have made a proposal. They would like to build it right there [ in Orchard Park ] and we need to hear back. You can’t really do plans and designs on things until you have a deal, and right now the City of Buffalo and the State [ of New York ] are going to have to decide if they want a team.”

No buzz here in Austin about it. NFL in Austin? Report says Buffalo Bills threatening move to Central Texas
LOCAL SPORTS by: Chris Tavarez, Andrew Schnitker AUSTIN (KXAN) — Earlier this year, Austin became home to its first professional sports franchise when Austin FC kicked off its inaugural Major League Soccer season. But now, a report from ESPN says that a different kind of pro football team could call Central Texas home. According to a tweet from Seth Wickersham, a writer at ESPN.com, the NFL’s Buffalo Bills are considering a move to Austin as a leverage play to get public funding for a new, $1.5 billion stadium. The Buffalo News reports team owners are asking taxpayers to pay for 100% of the new stadium.. “An ownership source tells me that Austin is a possible destination – or threat – as one of the ‘other cities elsewhere that desire an NFL franchise and would pay handsomely for it,'” Wickersham’s tweet reads.. Gov. Abbott retweeted KXAN’s story Sunday night with an “👀” emoji. Austin Mayor Steve Adler wrote in a tweet Sunday — “I don’t comment on such rumors, but it’s fun to think about what the @buffalobills new name might be — Austin Amps? Austin Beat? What do you think?”

I still remember the White Sox move to Tampa was a done deal in the late 80's.
