I don't think people are ready to go back to the theater. At least not like they were in the Before Times. I also don't think early access streaming is eating that much profit. I don't know anyone who pays the $30 to stream. These actors suing studios need to accept that the game has changed. Billion dollar box-offices are pretty much a thing of the past.

Eh, it’s a little bit above the estimated gross. I think it was between $25 and $30 million.

I just came back from seeing it. I liked it okay. My daughter enjoyed it. It's a typical modern day CGI fest but the Rock was pretty good in it. It was nice seeing Edgar Ramirez but he was woefully underused.

Movies were in trouble before this.
They don't care about the traditional US audience (because they look like Trump voters). People just don't see themselves reflected in the works on display.
Nobody cares about movies anymore-even the companies and the filmmakers. There's no enthusiasm.
I understand a message in this movie is that the scientific society doesn't accept women members---in the 19th century. But Hollywood treated women like they belong in a harem. From the 80s to the 2010s.
Having Hollywood preach about morality is so ridiculous. No wonder the art works are so anemic now.

I love Emily Blunt and will watch her in anything, but honestly, the film wasn't very good.

Black Widow and Godzilla vs. Kong are the highest grossing movies of the year so far, with Black Widow pulling in over $100 million in just a couple of weeks, which is pretty good considering.
And GvK came out much earlier this year while the majority of America was still unvaccinated and under more stringent restrictions.
I don't know if Disney just picked the wrong people to make the trailer, but nothing in that trailer looks even remotely interesting or enticing.
There's not even a hint at all about what the movie is about or what the goals of the characters are, except that they're on a Jungle Cruise.
Even the Applebee's commercial tie-in doesn't make the movie appetizing. In fact, it makes it even less so, both the movie and Applebee's.

I truthfully think it has more to do with The Rock as an actor. If you ask me he’s just NOT a big selling point and everyone sees him as an actor who does mediocre movies. I mean yeah Jumanji movies were good, but that had more than just The Rock and the name already drew people in. No one really knew the ride at Disney or cared about a movie adaption of Jungle Cruise. I mean I loved the movie, but I could see why this movie isn’t doing well.

I guess Disney is satisfied. It's getting a sequel.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is losing Star power.
He’s still very popular. But only when he’s playing a giant badass.
If he plays in comedies or light hearted adventure films, they aren’t as strong as they once were.
There was a time between 2008-2018 (about a 10 year period) where he just had to be in the movie, and it was going to make bank.
Now, he can’t just show up in a movie and it makes crazy money. He has to be a tough guy. People are tired of the funny Rock.

Hang on there's a superhero film trailer with the Rock playing a DC superhero being released today?
