Obviously it's Snoopy.

Loved all of them. If I had to pick one, probably Charlie Brown. You have to love a guy who got crapped on so much. Funny, if you look at the early strips, CB wasn’t the lovable loser that he became. He was a bit of a smartass. Many of the characters evolved. Lucy started as a little girl who referred to herself in the 3rd person and had a crush on Charlie Brown. Snoopy was just a dog.

Pigpen was one of the most popular characters in the strip. A lot of poll had him as the 3rd most popular, behind Charlie Brown and Snoopy. Schulz got many letters from fans whining that Pig wasn't in the strip that much. But Schulz couldn't figure out what to do with him. He didn't have a personality, just dirt. Schulz really regretted that he couldn't figure out what to do with Pigpen.

Without looking them up, how many different surnames(no repeating for siblings or pets) of Peanuts characters can you name? I can only get four; Charlie Brown, Lucy Van Pelt, Violet Gray, "Peppermint" Patty Reichardt does anyone know of more?

Their last name was 95472, which was their area code. There was a few "one off" characters, Royanne Hobbs, Jose Petersen, Harold Angel, the infamous Charlotte Braun. I've seen Marcie with the last name of "Johnson" but that wasn't in the strip.
Kudos! Most don't know Violet's last name or Peppermint Pat.

Thanks; I forgot about those dopey parents who named their kids with numbers and changed their surname (Charles Schulz's zip code at the time).

1b - Shermy 2b - Linus 3b - 5 (ironically 5 in the number for a 3b in baseball scoring)
SS - Snoopy OF - Some combo of the four mean girls, Lucy, "Original Patty", Violet, Freida. Eudora made an occasional appearance C - Schroeder P - Chuck
Pigpen and Sally never played. "Rerun" had one memorable pinch hit at bat

First in the comic strip: Snoopy, especially in his "flexible muzzle" stage (not in the animated TV versions, because I never knew exactly what he was thinking--and I got so tired of his very un-doggish, quacky "voice") First in the stage musical, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown): Linus Van Pelt (he's just so adorable--especially in the ensemble number, "Book Report.") First in the animated TV versions: Marcie
Second in the comic strip: Charlie Brown Second in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown: tie between Snoopy (mostly for his spotlight number, "Suppertime") and Lucy (especially when she's wooing/pestering Schroeder to the strains of the Moonlight Sonata) Second in the animated TV versions: Charlie Brown, especially in the summer camp episode, where he finally gets some respect (when he wears a paper bag over his head and is nicknamed "Mr. Sack")
