It's an absolute perfect success.
She'd already won anyway by battling her mental health problems. And now having overcome them (within a week, go girl!) she has come away with the only colour of medal she could take which didn't outshine the Silver her teammates had to settle for after Gold became no longer possible for them...

I admire her for battling through her mental health problems and competing
Inspirational
However can you really label this as a success when 2 people beat you?

Coming in third is nothing to be ashamed of It's a nice accomplishment; however (somebody correct me if I'm wrong) isn't/wasn't she considered the favorite and arguably the greatest gymnast ever? Mary Lou Retton came out and stated she was the greatest gymnast ever. This is coming from Mary Lou herself So if you're the 'Greatest Ever' - how can coming in third be considered as a success?

She had a nervous breakdown and had to stop competing in the middle of the games. Coming back to compete at all would be impressive, making the podium after everything she went through is quite an accomplishment.

. isn't/wasn't she considered the favorite and arguably the greatest gymnast ever? Not on the balance beam. That's been her weakest event.

Can’t society strike a balance between accepting failure for what it is and supporting people who are struggling with mental health issues?
She doesn’t need to be shamed. And she doesn’t need to be considered a hero. Both reactions are equally silly.

I accept her failure and support her.

Its funny when people who will never be close to get a bronze at the Olympics calls it a failure to get a bronze.

Going jogging tomorrow. Was hoping to best my time of an hour and eighteen minutes But my calves are sore from jumping rope Being my calves are sore - I shall deem an hour and a half as a 'Success'

Mary Lou Retton states the gymnast community has never seen the likes of Simone Biles and she's a 'Super Freak'
