My introduction to flamenco music, or something desiring to sound like it, was Marc Almond, or rather Marc and the Mambas.
The album was 'Torment and Toreros', a sprawling bloody trauma of a double album. Shortly after its release, the office of music critic Simon Reynolds of Melody Maker was invaded by Almond and he was bull-whipped by the emotionally wrecked singer after Reynolds had published a scathing review of the record. Sounds like an apt reaction by Almond considering the fiery nature of the album.
