TheGoodMan19 this sounds fun, read it? "The Wax Pack: On the Open Road in Search of Baseball's Afterlife," by Brad Balukjian (University of Nebraska Press). Balukjian, a biology teacher and childhood baseball card collector, set out on an unusual quest. He bought an unopened pack of 1986 Topps baseball cards, opened it, and tracked down the 14 players whose cards were in the pack (card No. 15 was a checklist). The resulting road trip is an entertaining, often surprisingly honest journey for the writer and his subjects, exploring their lives in and after the game. Among the most engaging chapters are those on two players with '86 Brewers cards: pitcher Jaime Cocanower, whose time in the game was always uneasy (and whose wife has some choice words for Brewers management), and third baseman Randy Ready, who keeps coming back. Jamie Cocanower, Randy Ready and a checklist? What a shitty pack
that's what makes an interesting book!

What is everyone reading? I can't find ANY good baseball or sports books at the library that I haven't read already. I'm onto Trump books, reserved Woodward's new one and the one that goes over all Trumps lies.

www.goodreads.com/book/show/29515470-the-road-to-madnessGood one. Fun stuff, Walton, UCLA's winning streak busted. NC State. The '74 ACC Final, the 1974 ACC Final, up with the Laettner Game as the greatest CBB game ever. Winner goes to the NCAA, loser got jack. David Thompson, Tom Burleson, Monte Towe v. Len Elmore, Tom McMillan, John Lucas, Orioles great Tim Stoddard. 103-100 in OT for the Wolf Pack. 203 pionts, with no three no shot clock. A couple things I didn't know 1. Saintly John Wooden was an ass. Eternally baiting refs. Eternally trash talking opponents. Even threats. In a game against Notre Dame, he told Digger Phelps if ND center John Schumate didn't stop defending Bill Walton so closely, he would send in the 7'4" gorilla Swen Nater with the sole purpose of hurting Schumate. Wooden comes off as a saint but I'm never convinced he didn't know about the UCLA shenanigans. Booster Sam Gilbert paid players for everything, including girlfriends abortions. If the NCAA investigated, few of those banners would hang at Pauley Pavilion. 2. The NCAA Tournament was a joke. 25 teams, that's it. Only conference champs went. In the march 4th AP poll, only four of the top seven made the "dance", Two Pac-8 teams, UCLA, USC, three ACC teams, NC State, UNC and Maryland. And the first round games were played before the bigconferences, Pac, Big 10 and ACC determined their champs. Be fun to pick your bracket, no. This season, especially the ACC title game led to the expansion of the Tourney.

Billy Crystal badmouthed Ford Frick a lot in his movie *61.
Loved the quote Mickey Mantle made when Frick was eulogizing Babe Ruth
"Bet I got more pussy than he did!"

Again, not a sports book.but reading Triumph and Demise by Paul Kelly which is about the 2007-2013 Australian Labor Government, who won office comfortably on a presidential style campaign focused on their leader Kevin Rudd, sacked him on the eve of the 2010 election when he had a 4 point lead in the polls and were forced into minority governments a result, and then went back to him to try and save some furniture facing horrific polls going into the 2013 election.
Kelly is an excellent writer. Good read. Really hope he writes a book on the rolling clusterfuck that was the 2013-2022 Liberal Government.

TheGoodMan19 this barry strauss writes great books about rome; I have it on Kindle. just haven't got to it yet. I bet when I read it, I'll picture Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and Roddy McDowell.
My current read
3rd volume of an awesome trilogy about WWII from D-Day to the end. Sand and Steel was Normandy, Snow and Steel covered The Bulge. Detailed but not too weighty. Recommended. And after than
