His rise came right as I was becoming a full-time sports fan. 616 strikeouts combined between 1978 and 1979 - - I was amazed by him. RIP.

Many hitters from that era said he had he filthiest stuff in baseball from 1976 - 1980. But the Astros ruined him. He complained of a "dead arm" and the team thought he was "lazy". But he had a blood clot in his neck which led to a heart attack. Now it would have been caught early and treated. I seen him pitch in Three Rivers in 1979 and I swear (and I wasn't the only one) you could hear the ball cutting through the air, like a small artillery shell. I remember the clip posted from the AS game. Reggie was talking to himself on the bench long after he was made to look foolish.
