Have there been any retired Olympics sports introduced to the Games since 1896 that you wish they bring back or thought it would have the potential to make a comeback for today? The Olympics have introduced some of the most bizarre and forgotten games from the past like firefighting, canoe shooting, pigeon racing, lacrosse, sled dog racing, and art competitions from the early 1900s.
According to Wikipedia, here are the list of those sports in question:
Past sports: Aeronautics, Alpinism, Basque pelota, Cricket, Croquet, Jeu de paume, Lacrosse, Military patrol, Polo, Rackets, Roque, Rugby union (15-a-side), Tug of war, Water motorsports
Demonstration sports: American football, Australian football, Bandy, Bowling, Budo, Disabled skiing, Gliding, Glima, Ice stock sport, Korfball, La canne, PesΓ€pallo, Roller hockey, Savate, Skijoring, Sled dog racing, Speed skiing, Water skiing, Winter pentathlon
Unofficial sports: Angling, Art competitions, Ballooning, Boules, Cannon shooting, Cycle polo, Dueling pistole, Sports Fire fighting, Gaelic football, Hurling, Kaatsen, Kite flying, Life saving, Longue paume, Motor racing, Motorcycle racing, Pigeon racing, Wushu
For me, I wish that they could revive lacrosse, bowling, water motorsports, winter pentathlon, and tug-of-war. Ballooning doesn't sound too bad either imo.

Interesting that they got rid of Polo, but still have Water PoloNot only do they still have it, it represents 90% of NBC's coverage of the games.

I was thinking Tug-Of-War even before I saw the original post. Lacrosse would be good, too. I didn't even know Bowling had been taken out. IIRC, it was a demo sport in the Seoul games in 1988. Good to see baseball and softball be put back in. It had to be taken out in 2012 because England didn't have the facilities for the sport. Could have converted a few cricket pitches. Just sayin'. Do they still have long distance walking? Those men they all look like constipating trying not to make big steps.

Do they still have long distance walking? Those men they all look like constipating trying not to make big steps. I though it had been removed but no. The other day it was on the news when a Canadian won a medal in the 50km event. His time was nearly four hours! Imagine doing that silly walk for four hours.

If you're in an athletic race, & you're stopping to find a restroom... I dunno. I realize it's a 2-3 hour walk, yet couldn't they at least make it seem he's not leaving the course for convenience? How about a urinal trough behind a wall somewhere, like a pit stop.

Bowling sounds so cool as an Olympic sport.
It's such a fun sport to play.

I see a German coach punched a horse because it wouldn't jump for the Modern Pentathlon. I sincerely didn't know this 'sport' existed until that headline. Look it up - it's pretty crazy.

That was the last time the 50k will be an Olympic event. Theyβre keeping the 20k walk though.

...and it was boring and rather unpopular if not even ridiculed - race walking. But cutting it for a noble cause like gender equality makes so much easier for the PR and the affected athletes can hardly went against it without being accused as selfish and or sexist. I won't miss it.

I think T20 cricket will get a run at some stage. The Indian sub continent is a huge market. India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan have about 2 billion people between them and the women's game has come up in both participation and quality in leaps and bounds in the last decade.
I remember when they had 50 over cricket in the Commonwealth games it was a unique opportunity for Caribbean players to represent their own nation rather than the "West Indies" conglomerate.
