The 1976 version was unwatchable.

The 1976 version was unwatchable. It wasn't that good.

The 76 version is boring.

No contest, 1933
Forget the great poster for 1976, Rick Baker in an ape suit alternating with a giant moth eaten animatronic that moved like one half of Shields and Yarnell (if it moved at all) was the nail in the coffin of the worst monkey movie ever foisted on the American public.

Worse than A*P*E?

I prefer the original 1933 version although the latter one wasn't terrible. Plusses being Jessica Lange , a moody John Barry soundtrack, and Jeff Bridges reaction when Kong snags a chopper. But the original is quite smashing. I have a colonised version which is on my to do list to watch.

1933 although I would rather endure the 76 film rather than the 2005 remake which is even more pointless.

In my estimation, yes, because A*P*E was a South Korean-American monstrosity, about what you would expect from a low budget knock-off.
De Laurentis poured tons of money into his movie and proclaimed it was going to make everyone forget the 1933 Classic. The expectation was that, even if it didn't top the original, it was at the very least going to be a great thrill ride. It was junk food.

I'm not a fan of either but I'll take 1933.
1976 was awful. The ape throughout the movie had a rape face.
