Which directors would you label as "arthouse" directors?
Martin Scorsese has never made a blockbuster. His frenetic style of filming would actually be ideal for blockbusters.

It seems more common than I initially thought - the MCU went with arthouse/indie directors for Ragnarok, Captain Marvel and Black Widow and the upcoming Eternals and Shang Chi. Paul Verhoeven did well. Jean-Pierre Jeunet not so much with Alien Resurrection (though I liked it). I thought Joe Wrights Hanna was both great and different.
Those with a distinctive style would be interesting - Wes Anderson, Ken Loach, Peter Greenaway, Wong Kar-wai etc
