in the dictionary.
I mean fairly simple words. I'll tell you why, i while ago i had to know the word 'oasis' but i wasn't sure if i knew what it meant. So it was like, it took me like 30 minutes before i could find my dictionary and what do you know, I didn't know what it meant.
You know what I am sayin?

I love looking up words in the dictionary. Sometimes, it's for a definition, or a fine point of a definition. Other times, it's for spelling ... that's usually when spellcheck doesn't like what I've entered.
It isn't unusual for me to get side-tracked by other words that are near my search. It's interesting.
For that old question: "If you were alone on a desert island, and could have only one book ...." I think an unabridged dictionary would keep me busy for years!

No, I feel smarter for having learnt a new word. I’m always looking them up when I’m reading ebooks on my iPad. You just highlight the word and tap Look Up, and it gives you a dictionary definition in 1 second.

Not at all.
I don't like to repeat words in my posts, so I'm always looking up alternative ways to express a thought, be sure the definition is correct and the spelling is right. The English language is vast and we should use it to constantly expand our range of written and spoken communication, especially in this current climate of PC and Cancel Culture.
Admittedly, some of my posts are tinged with purple, but since I love that style, what the heck.

I look up words all the time. Sometimes what I thought it meant, isn't right.

Not at all. When I feel dumb is realizing I've misspelled a word I didn't bother to verify.

No. I will recheck a word sometimes to make sure I'm using it correctly. Plus, I have no ability to spell...a word with a lot of "I's" in particular turns into a blur...so I need to look up words for that. I used to feel dumb about having a mild learning disability until I realize how much better I was doing than folks with all their so-called facilities.

I feel dumb for many reasons, but that is not one of them.

No, I feel smart er for having learnt a new word. I’m always looking them up when I’m reading ebooks on my iPad. You just highlight the word and tap Look Up, and it gives you a dictionary definition in 1 second. I've never used the online dictionary that much. I could be wrong, but from what i have noticed the old dictionaries are more accurate for words.
Especially if you're reading something that's old, because then the book will use the old definition. But that's just how i look at it i could , be wrong.
I have noticed at least, that if i even read something from the 80's then that would happen.
then again of course, it all depends on what source the online dictionary uses. So i'm probably wrong.

Nah, love to learn a new word. I should write them down though, I forget them if they're not in everyday language. One good thing about e-reading is you can just put your finger on the word for a quick definition. Bit on the lazy side though, nothing better than a book.
