Sort of like the the new Halloween or Candyman movies where the previous sequels are ignored, with Brody's son now the sheriff of Amity with a new shark, but this time everything's woke...or something.

I am a little surprised that a Jaws followup in the mold of Candyman or the Halloween reboot hasn't happened yet.

I'm pretty sure Universal Pictures owns the rights to the series. Otherwise, the sequels wouldn't have been made if he did own the rights.

According to IMDB.com he wished he retained greater control over the franchise to avoid Jaws 3-D and Jaws: The Revenge.

I get your just trying to be snarky and cynical with the woke comment, but no. Jaws is a movie that never required sequels or reboots.

Well to play devil's advocate: could be fun if it followed the original possible idea where amity goes into a depression forcing the town to remedy the situation, IE: within the book basically the mayor kept Amityville Beach open because he was dealing with the mob etc.

One way that could be interesting for a follow-up could be a sequel that doesn’t demonize great white sharks (entirely) and includes updated knowledge of their social behavior and ecological importance.
