Wish I could have seen 'God Looked Away' on the American stage, either in New York, or ideally on tour in Ohio.
Al Pacino in 'Camino Real' (a 1970 production co-starring Jean-Pierre Aumont, Victor Buono, Clifford David, Patrick McVey, Sylvia Syms, David J. Stewart, Jessica Tandy & Susan Tyrell)

That would be as Meyer Offerman, a Polish-Jewish philanthropist and Holocaust survivor, in 'Hunters'. For Al Pacino, it was also a chance to channel one of his heroes, Laurence Olivier, who played a Nazi hunter in Franklin J. Schaffner's brutal thriller 'The Boys From Brazil' (1978) which was based upon a novel by Ira Levin.

Nice. I wasn't aware of that. Only remember seeing Laurence Olivier in Marathon Man and the the young love movie with Diane Lane in Paris. The title escapes me now.

The man is constantly stretching and reinventing himself, especially on stage, where he has not only taken on Tennessee Williams but William Shakespeare, as well.
Work apparently keeps Pacino alive, and there is no harder work for an actor than the legitimate stage where you are judged every night and don't have to wait for the movie to premier to know what the audience thinks of you.
He certainly doesn't need the money and long ago proved himself a brilliant artist. At an age when most of his contemporaries are slowing down or long retired, he seems as unstoppable as the Energizer Bunny.

I think he likes the craft but hates the business. He said as much when he came back to cinema after a four year break in the late 1980s.

It would take an analyst to understand the psychology that motivates Pacino's obsessive passion for his craft.
He is in common with Boris Karloff who drove himself relentlessly well into his eighties, confined to a wheelchair, with one lung and an oxygen tank nearby.

Pavlo Hummel is another worthy play as well.

Al Pacino received a Tony Award and Drama Desk Award for his performance in David Rabe's play. Rabe was once married to Pacino's friend Jill Clayburgh.

Jill Clayburgh & Al Pacino in 'Deadly Circle'

I've always been intrigued by Pacino's stage work. The guy just works on a different level.
Always challenging himself. Great actor
Timothy Dalton is another guy who likes doing stage work. After doing James Bond, he went back to doing theatre work because he wasn't interested in becoming a big star.
