Do you think there is any room in film today for new slasher icons to exist? I think the last time a new slasher was created to wide(r) success was Ghost Face is scream. That was 20 years ago. There have been other slasher films made since then but they’ve either used existing characters or new ones that just didn’t catch on. Do you think there is any room today for a new slasher character, like a Jason or Michael Myers, to be created and find success?

There are very few iconic slasher characters to begin with, so I am not surprised that there hasn't been an iconic slasher since Ghostface. The horror genre was at it's most prominent in the 1980s.
2010 - present has been very good for the horror genre imo, but have left the slasher movies behind for the most part.
The slasher movie is a product of the 1980s and didn't really make a comeback. Scream is an exception.
Of course there is the possibility for a new iconic slasher, but based on the above, I think it is unlikely. The fact that we have only had one new iconic slasher in movies in the past 33 years says a lot.

I would probably pick Jigsaw since he's been around long enough. I've never seen the first Terrifier (and apparently a second one is on the way) but I love the design for its villain Art the Clown.

There’s always room for if. There've been new ones that haven’t quite hit the same heights like Victor Crowley of the Hatchet series …and non slasher horror icons have been dominant like Jigsaw and Annabelle. But there’s always room for more. The problem is the studios are relying on remakes and reboots.

Art is scary as hell so that's a good spot. Watch him alone in 'Terrifier' at night, in total darkness with the sound design amplified as it should be. He's nasty as they come.

I like Candyman but he technically isn’t new. The original film came out in 1992.

Some remakes are actually great like 2018 Halloween. But putting time towards new stuff is also important.

There's plenty of room, but horror has trended away from slasher movies so most of the new iconic characters aren't going to be slashers. I would say that Sam from Trick R Treat qualifies as a slasher and costumes, toys, and merchandise of that guy are sold all over the place. Yes, the movie came out well over ten years, but the movie also gains more popularity every year.
